Sr. Manager of Content Strategy – St. Louis, MO – $90 to $125k

Our client, a nationally recognized and innovative digital agency recently “won” the opportunity to partner with one of the area’s most prestigious names to redesign and recreate the organization’s total web presence.  This challenge will require the professional knowledge, skills and experiences of a complete team of digital professionals including a Senior Manager of Content Strategy.

Overall Responsibility

The Sr. Manager of Content Strategy will

  • Lead a team in determining and managing the overall content strategy for all assigned clients / assignments. In this role, the selected individual will be responsible for reviewing, auditing and categorizing the scope of the clients’ digital content, exposing outdated and duplicate content, identifying content gaps, and forming the strategy by which content will be presented to the clients’ user base. On very large engagements, the Sr. Manager will oversee the efforts of Junior Content Strategists as they execute core strategies for other client sites and channels.
  • Work closely with the agency’s Lead Editor to identify and commission complementary content or to provide retooled content to match the agreed upon clients’ strategy.  
  • Beyond devising, overseeing and actively implementing the foundational content strategy, the Sr. Manager will be responsible for positioning the client for continued long-term success. This will include educating and mentoring the client(s) in content best practices, building content creation and approval workflows, collaborating with development to enhance CMS solutions in support of client content goals, and establishing a strong content governance plan tailored to the client’s organization.

Position Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree in technical communication, information management, journalism, library science, English, HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), cognitive psychology, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a content strategist, web content manager, information architect, or similar user experience role.
  • Ability to understand complex business issues and develop solutions to simplify them for end users.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing very large and / or very complex content strategy projects.
  • Extraordinarily comfortable in the digital world, with subject matter expertise in Content Management Systems and supporting strong Web writing with SEO and social media.
  • Success in creating strong multi-channel content strategies, supporting Web, Mobile, Social Channels, Email, etc. Creates multi-channel editorial calendars.
  • Able to present three (3) work samples, required with the application,  that demonstrate the candidates ability to establish and create exemplary project templates and deliverables, including content strategies, site maps, content matrices, taxonomies, competitive analyses, SEO strategies, etc. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are required.  As a key member of the agency team, the ideal candidate, while paired with an Account Management Client Partner, must have excellent client relationship development and management skills to function as a point of contact with the client for sharing strategic vision, best practices, and subject matter expertise.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a Lead Editor and a stable of writers, the successful candidate must have excellent research, writing, and editing skills.  They must be able to contribute to the process of defining and establishing editorial tone and voice and create and polish key content as needed.
  • Provide documentation of the ability to create and implement a comprehensive content governance plan tailored to the client’s organizational structure, bearing in mind specific needs, strengths, and constraints.
  • Be quickly recognized as a leader both internally and externally.  Ability to influence groups to adapt the best solutions and to develop wise compromises when necessary. A professional that brings “value” to all situations.
  • Able to understand the business / financial management of all assigned projects / assignments


Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with creating content and content strategy for medical/healthcare sites
  • Familiarity with accessible design principles, Section 508, and W3C guidelines.
  • Fluency with both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
  • Advanced expertise with search engine optimization.
  • Experience with Web Trends, Omniture or other web analytic tools a plus.
